Chapter Seven

Sadie’s breath barely reached her lungs because of the heat filling her. The deeply satisfying sexual events had taken a turn. Her thoughts blackened as her body erupted into a firestorm of focused energy. Fear didn’t surface because the burning felt natural. Images surfaced in rapid succession as she scanned the men. Organs, blood flow, hearts, lungs. She could envision everything with such clarity now! Her grasp tightened with her need to stay connected to them.

A sensation built in the pit of her stomach, gathering strength before pulsing from the palms of her hands. She finally saw the defect hidden deeply within their brains. A nasty, festering green strand that didn’t belong.

Why hadn’t I noticed it prior? How could it be so clear now?

The healing energy traveled through her and into them. The smell of burning flesh assaulted her but she couldn’t release them. Would this cure them? Would they be able to live?

Before she could complete the healing, Nolan pulled free, breaking her concentration. Depleted, drained and confused, she’d collapsed next to Gabriel. Shivers racked her body as cold air flooded her chest. The sensations paralleled when she’d been cast into the freezing rapids.

“Sadie! Breathe!” Gabriel yelled.

She would if she could. It wasn’t possible. He pulled her up, forcing her to sit before shaking her.

“Open your mouth. Draw air!”

Her body refused to cooperate. Nothing worked until Gabriel forced her lips apart and filled her lungs with his warm breath. She exhaled on her own and once again, found herself unable to draw air. He repeatedly fed her from his own lungs until the tightness left her body. She gasped, choked and thanked the stars her body was finally returning to normal.

Where was Nolan?

Her lips trembled and her tongue wouldn’t cooperate. Gabriel filled her vision, concern etched into his face. He kept her sitting as a nasty burn on his wrist came into view. Without forethought, she placed her hand over it and closed her eyes. Her stomach tightened and a burst of electricity surged from her hand. It’d taken no preparation, no meditation and no time at all to heal the wound.

“Dearest Ayasha,” she exclaimed, pulling away from him.

He gazed where she did. He too appeared tired and confused. “Sadie?”

His eyes glowed, reflecting the flames from the fire. He touched her cheek and smiled. A real, honest, unhindered smile. How could such a rough and emotionless man suddenly appear so normal and beautiful to her?

Nolan groaned and they turned their attention to the nearly unconscious hunter. His arm! Gabriel helped her to Nolan’s side. Her gaze riveted on the badly burned forearm. As it’d happened before, she grasped him hard and her stomach clenched before a massive jolt erupted from her hand. Just that quickly, she’d healed him.

“What’s happening to me?” She turned her palms up and studied them, trying to discern her newfound ability.

Nolan moaned and she placed her hands upon his chest. She could see and sense everything inside him. Confusion, dizziness and a remnant of unmet sexual desire filled him.
